The number of years married for Patsy appears to have been corrected either to or from 42 and some other number, perhaps 4, 11 or 12. It contains a 42, but unlike the one above it on Samuel’s row, the left stroke of the 4 is very dark and extends down to the baseline, and the 2 is darker than the other digits. At 45, Patsy cannot have been married 42 years, but it is unclear whether the census taker originally duplicated the 42 from Samuel’s line and then tried to replace it with a smaller number, or whether it was originally the smaller number, and then the cross-checker made it consistent with Samuel’s line.
