His death certificate records Robert Stigall, age 67, date and place of birth blank, died 2 Feb 1936 in Rowan Co., father Louis Stigall, mother’s maiden name Mary Ann Mauk, cause of death chronic nephritis, informant Golda Stigall, burial in Jones Cemetery.

The mother’s maiden name is probably incorrect. Records for Lewis’s other children are consistent in reporting their mother’s maiden name as McMillan or McMillion, and the 1880 census listed Lewis’s wife Mary A. as 53 at the time, so there is no reason (other than this death record) to believe he remarried to a second wife also named Mary Ann. The informant Golda was the wife of Robert’s son William, and most likely was simply mistaken about her grandmother-in-law’s maiden name.

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Farmers precinct, enumerated 22 April, lists on p. 8A as family #137/143:
Stegall, Robert, 35, laborer at odd jobs; Virgie, wife, 28, second marriage for both, married 8 years, mother of 3 children, 3 living; Annie, dau, 7; William J., son, 4. All listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although that is inconsistent with other records for Robert’s parents.

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 12 Jan, lists on p. 9 as family #83:
Steagall, Robert, 49, common laborer; Virgie, wife, 36; Anna, dau 18, widowed; Willie, son, 14; Allen, son, 7. All born Ky Ky Ky.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 12 April, lists on p. 3A as family #60:
Stegall, Robert, 53, age at first marriage 20; Anna, dau, 27, widowed; Allen, son, 18; Lemasters, Sam, son-in-law, 28, age at first marriage 22. All born Ky Ky Ky.
