His obituary reported “Puckett, James Henry of Merrillville was called to his eternal home on February 17, 2012. He was born May 8, 1927 in Morehead, KY, was a US Army veteran retired from LTV Steel with 40 1/2 years of service. Jim was a member of Deep River Church of Christ, a 50 year member of M.L. McClelland Masonic Lodge #357 F7M of Hobart, the Orak Shrine and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and VFW Post 717 of St. John, IN.
James is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Gunda (Knorr) and loving family, sons Charles (Monita) and Robert (Donna) Puckett, daughter Rose Taylor, all of Hobart and son-in-law Charles Hicks of Valparaiso; 7 grandchildren Rikki (John) Guthrie of Hobart, Joseph (April) Hicks of Des Moines, IA, Amy (Mike) Stahlbaum of Kalamazoo, MI, Rebecca (Dan) Rosenbaum and Josephine Puckett, of Hobart, Kathy (Kurt) Negele of Cedar Lake and Jaime (Jon) Burchuk of Portage; 3 step grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Cora Click of Morehead, KY and numerous nieces and nephews and many other loving friends. James was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Linda Hicks, parents Martin and Lula (Dehart) Puckett , 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral service will be Monday, February 20, 2012, at 10:00am directly at Deep River Church of Christ, 7500 Grand Boulevard, Merrillville. Rev. Ron Buche officiating. Interment at Graceland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart. Masonic Service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in James' name may be made to Deep River Church of Christ or the Hobart Masonic Lodge”
