I cannot find a draft registration card for him; perhaps he enlisted without being drafted.

1920 census of Morgan Co., Ky, Panther’s branch precinct, enumerated 16 Jan, lists on p. 9A with Dallas’ parents Walker C. & Elizabeth Black:
Dallas, son, 26, married, farm laborer; Ethel, daughter in law, 16, married. They are both listed as born Ky Arkansas Ky, but it should be Ky Ky Ky for Ethel.
1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 4 April, lists on p. 11A as family #2:
Black, Dallas J., 36, age at first marriage 26, house carpenter; Ethel, wife, 27, age at first marriage 17; Mildred, dau, 8; Farrell, dau, 7; James P., son, 2; Pete, son, 5. All listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although other records say that Dallas’s father was born in Arkansas.
Judging by the birth index and the 1940 census, the son James P. should be a daughter; perhaps her middle name was Jane.
1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, ED 103-3, enumerated 12 April, lists on p. 7B as family #123, on Flemingsburg Rd:
Black, Dallas, 45, carpenter building houses; Ethel, wife, 37; Mildred, dau, 18; Furl, dau, 17; Peter, son, 15; Patsy, dau, 12. All born in Kentucky, living in same house in 1935.
