Notes for James Harvey Williams
According to a Williams family bible in possession of Phyllis Mossing, it states that James was born Nov. 26, 1827 in Morgan Co., KY and died in 1877 in New Mexico. She has not found any record of his death other than the bible statements. The bible states that James Harvey was killed in Otero, NM, and was a paymaster for a gold mine. He was robbed and shot and killed.
Otero is the county that contains Alamagordo. There is not currently any town named Otero in New Mexico, although there may have been in the 1870’s.
Be careful not to confuse him with John Harvey Williams born 1823, who married Mahala Rudd, or with James Harvey Williams born 1830 who married Cordelia Howerton.
Notes for Temperance “Tempey” Conley
Be careful not to confuse her with Temperance E. Ricks born Oct 1829 who married John B. Williams in Trigg Co., Ky. (Some online family trees get their death dates mixed up, since they were the same age and both had married names of Temperance Williams.)
