Her obituary reported:
“Aileen Pettit Shelton, 76, of Dalton, Ga., died Monday evening, Dec. 21, 2009 at the Hamilton Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Aileen was born July 3, 1933 in Whitfield County, Ga., the last surving child of the late Sam and Mattie Bennett Pettit; and was also preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Pettit; and her sister, Gladys Shelton.
She worked many years at Shelton Carpet and was a member of the Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harold Shelton of the residence; daughter, Kathy Shelton of Resaca, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Teresa Shelton and Gregg and April Shelton all of Dalton; grandchildren, Matthew Shelton, Cole Shelton, Crystal Shelton and Leah Shelton; and several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Aileen Shelton will be held Thursday, Dec. 24,at 11 a.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with her pastor, Reverend Ronald Guffey officiating. She will be laid to rest at the West Hill Cemetery with Tim Smith, Keith, Tracy, Tommy, David and Terry Shelton serving as pallbearers.”
