His obituary in the Dalton Daily Citizen reported:
“Mr. Larry Clark Pettit, 61, of Dalton, departed this life early Friday morning, June 29, 2007, at the Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
Mr. Pettit was born April 24, 1946, in Oakridge, Tenn., to Mary Helen Stephens of Dalton and the late Audie Clark Pettit. Along with his father he is also preceded in death by a half-brother, Edward Eugene Pettit; stepfather, Oscar Goldie Stephens and father-in-law, John Earnest.
At the time of his death, Mr. Pettit had been associated with Edd Kirby’s Adventure Chevrolet as a salesman for the past nine years.
Mr. Pettit is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Earnest Pettit, to whom he was married, Nov. 24, 1973; his mother, Helen Stephens of Dalton; half-sisters, Irene Wingo of Columbus, Miss., Alma Reeves of Fort Huachia, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Kent Earnest of Dalton; mother-in-law, Ann Earnest of Dalton; his beloved pet cocker spaniel, “Hershey” also survives.
Services will be on Monday at 1 p.m. from the Melrose Chapen of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Evans and Rev. Johnny Montgomery officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Whitfield Memorial Gardens.”
