Her death certificate records Clara Mullins, age 84 years 5 months 3 days, born 6 Feb 1859 in West Liberty, Morgan Co., Ky, died 9 July 1943 in Dayton, Campbell Co., Kentucky, widow of Samuel Mullins, father Pleasant Barker, mother’s maiden name Elizabeth Scott, both born in Ky, cause of death chronic congestive cardiac failure, informant Anna Moss (or Mass), 603 Lexington Ave., Newport, Ky, burial in Highland Cem.

Story told by a son of Julia Clevenger and Adolphus Elliott:

“Levi Clevenger supposedly had an affair with a woman named Clara Barker.  Clara showed up at his door one day and handed him a baby girl, and left, never to be heard from again.  All assume that she was Levi’s daughter.  Her name was Julia Clevenger.”

I don’t know for sure that the Clara Barker who was Julia’s mother is the same one who married Henry Mabry, but I cannot find another Clara Barker of the right generation. One problem with the identification is that it would be likely that in 1883 she would have been going by Clara Mabry, not Clara Barker. But perhaps the grandson knew of her maiden name, and it was he who referred to her that way, not Levi. On the other hand, perhaps Julia’s mother was a widow of a Barker.
