This is, however, just the situation where infants unnamed at the time the birth is registered are indexed under the father’s given name, regardless of gender. It should not be taken as evidence that there was any intention by the parents to use that name.

His death certificate records an unnamed son, stillborn on 30 April 1911 in Salt Lick, Bath Co., Ky, father Joe Purvis, mother’s maiden name Melissa Rogers, both born in Bath Co., Ky, informant Joe Purvis, Salt Lick, Ky, burial in Dickerson Cemetery.
