From his nephew Nathan Gregory Jr., as posted on Ancestry.com on 17 Nov 2011:
“Jessie was always known as "Jessie B" but no one seemed to really know what his middle name was. His grandchildren have stated that they think it was Bishop. However we have nothing to substantiate that. When I found his and Irene's marriage records in the Fleming County courthouse, I noticed he had signed it as Jessie W. Porter. We have experience with another ancestor who used the middle initial of 'B' as a sort of nickname, John B Gregory, who on close investigation proved to be John William Gregory, and the B was short for Bill, a common dimunitive of William.
We suspect, but cannot confirm, that his grandchildren are mistaken and his middle name was actually William. It will be interesting to see if any future research ever shows this to be true.”

Fleming Co., Ky marriage book X, pp. 96-97, records the marriage on 8 July 1909 of Jess W. Porter, age 28, farmer, and Irene Gregory, age 18, first marriage for both, both spouses and their parents born in and residents of Fleming Co., at the bride’s home. Bond surety by J. H. Gregory.
