“T. Kelly Barnes, One of Mt. Sterling's Widest Known Citizens Expires Wednesday

On yesterday morning at 7:oo o'clock at the Mary Chiles Hospital, T. Kelly Barnes, who would have been 82 years old February 1928, breathed his last expiring breath in the presence of his devoted wife and children, having rounded a well-spent life.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Robert and John M. Barnes, of this city; also by one brother Henry Barnes of Wilmington, W.Va. and a sister Mrs. Andrew Judy of this city; five grand-children and a great grandson.

Funeral service was conducted at his home on North Maysville street this morning by his pastor, Rev. Olus Hamilton of the Baptist church and following the service his body was laid to rest in Machpelah cemetery.

Kelly Barnes was the son of Robert and Paulina Hazelrigg Barnes and was married to Miss Sue Martin 58 years ago . To them were born three sons, Roger, who preceded his father many years ago and the two surviving sons, Robert and John. For the great part of his life he was engaged in the grocery business, retiring on account of failing health. For many years he had been a member of the local Baptist church, having accespted Christ under the ministry of Dr. J. Pike Powers, now a retired minister in Knoxville, Tenn. Kelly Barnes had many friends with whom he had endearing ties and that devotion to this just man will linger as long as memory lasts.

Pallbearers: Charles K. Oldham, R.H. Dale, Lawless D. Gatewood, Harry G. Hoffman, and Pierce Winn. Honorary: Alftred Humphreys, Nat Young, Sr.; Dr. J.A. Vansant, John G. Winn, W.O. Chenault, Judge Lewis Apperson, John Peggs, Roy G. Kern. To the wife tottering under the weight of years, the sons of noble birth, the brother and sister with saddened hearts we join the many in sorrow and extend sympathy.
