Even though it is clear that 1870 was entered as a correction (the certificate is typed, and there are x’s through 1869 with 1870 superscripted), based on the censuses, where he is listed as age 1 in 1870, the original date was apparently correct.

1910 census of Menifee Co., Ky, Mariba precinct, enumerated 18 April, lists on p. 1A as family #1:
Sexton, Lafe N., 41, farmer; Mary, wife, 38, married 17 years, mother of 1 child, 1 living; William, 16. All born Ky Ky Ky.

1920 census of Menifee Co., Ky, district 6, enumerated 26 Jan, lists on p. 4B as family #70:
Sexton, Lafayet, 51, farmer; Mary, wife, 47; Wash Ward, 30, farm laborer, married; Ella, 21, married. All born Ky Ky Ky.

It is unclear whether the farm hand is named Wash Ward or Ward Wash. The former seems like a more normal name, but the formatting convention is to put last name first. There is no relationship informant for them, not even boarder or servant.

1940 census of Butler Co., Ohio, Middletown ward 4, ED 9-66, enumerated 8 April, lists on p. 2A as family #31, at 2308 Central Ave:
Sexton, Lula, 46, machine tender for tobacco co; Sexton, Lafayette, father-in-law, 71; Mary, mother-in-law, 69. All born in Kentucky, all living in same house in 1935.
