The Mt. Sterling Advocate of 10 Oct 1899 contained a brief death notice “On Monday, Oct. 2, at his home in Spencer, Mr. Richard Brown, aged 80 years, died. He had long been a resident of this county.”

The Mt. Sterling Advocate printed this obituary: “Mrs. Eliza Brown, wife of Richard Brown, died at her home Saturday of heart disease. She had been confined to her bed for 2 months past, was better Saturday and was sitting up in bed talking when she died. Funeral was preached at Spencer church by Elder B. W. Trimble Sunday evening and the remains interred at the Coons burying ground. She was about 58 years old, and a member of the church at Spencer. She leaves a husband and five children - John Brown and Mrs. W. J. Sloan, of Louisville and William, Richard and Ben of this county."

1880 census of Montgomery Co., Ky, Howards Mill precinct, enumerated 14 June, lists on p. 18 as family #136/152:
Brown, Richd, 56, farmer, b. Ireland Ireland Ireland; Eliza, 38, wife, b. Ky Ky Ky; John, 19, son; William, 17, son; Elizabeth, 15, dau; Richd, 8, son. All children born Ky Ireland Ky.
