Notes for Martha M. Fraley
Her obituary in the Rochester Sentinel of Monday, July 16, 1962 reported:
“Mrs. Martha M. SWANSON, 50, 117 East 14th street, died at 9:10 a.m. today in Woodlawn hospital, where she had been a patient since last Nov. 22. She had been ill for 10 1/2 years.
Born April 5, 1912, in Elliot county, Ky., she moved here from Portsmouth, O., 22 years ago. She was the daughter of Uriah and Lennie Hannah Fraley. Her marriage was to John M. Swanson in Portsmouth on Oct. 2, 1940. Mrs. Swanson attended St. John Lutheran church here.
Surviving with the husband are a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Joyce) Busenberg, Warsaw; two sons at home, Jimmy and John L., Jr.; a granddaughter, Sherri Lynn Busenberg, Warsaw; a sister, Mrs. W. M. Lands, Mount Sterling, O. Also, five brothers from Portsmouth, Ebb, Dave, John, Ballard and Elza [FRALEY]; four other brothers; the Rev. Thurman Fraley, Ithaca, Mich.; Lindsey, Trinity, Ky.; George, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Columbus, Wheelersburg, O. A sister, two brothers and the parents preceded in death.
Final rites will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. John Lutheran church with the Rev. Alfred Gerni, Logansport St. James Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in the Athens cemetery.”
Her reported birthdate is off by two years, since she was recorded as age 3 months in the 1910 census. While ages in censuses are often wrong, a child born after May 1910, when the household was visited, could not have been precognitively listed.
