His obituary reported:
“Wm Adrian Sorrell, 79, of Middletown, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at his residence.
He was born on Dec. 21, 1919 in Owingsville, Ky., the son of William Herman and Biddie (Barber) Sorrell. Mr. Sorrell worked as the billing clerk at Curry Ford. He was a veteran of World War II, a life member of Disabled American Veterans, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of AARP.
Mr. Sorrell joined the Army in December 1942 at the start of World War II and trained at Fort Knox. He entered into war on July 10, 1943, in Sicily and fought in four major battles: the Sicilian campaign, Northern French campaign, the Normandy campaign and the German campaign. He received a Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, four Battle Stars and an Oak Leaf Cluster. He ws discharged from the Army in July 1945.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy Gail (husband Keith) Liphardt of Middletown; two grandchildren, Eric Christopher Boyd and Katina Marie Wilson, both of Middletown; a sister, Minne Highley of Louisville, Ky.; and a brother, Silas Dawson Sorrell of Muncie, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Highly Sorrell, in 1997; and three brothers, Jesse, Thomas Vernon and Frank Estell; two sisters, Nona Mae Adams and Louise Marshall.

Her obituary reported “Mrs. Ruth (Highley) Sorrell, 78, of 1745 Tytus Ave., died Thursday morning, July 10, 1997, at the Willow Knoll Convalescent Center.
She was born in Olympia, Ky., on Sept. 2, 1918, a daughter of Thornton and Martha Staton Highley, and came to the area in 1958. On Aug 31, 1940, she married William Adrian Sorrell. Mrs. Sorrell was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Among her survivors are her husband, William A.; a daughter, Judy Gail Lippphardt of Middletown; two grandchildren, Eric Christopher Boyd and Katina Marie Wilson; a sister, Edith Swartz of Middletown; and a brother, Hanley Highley of Louisville, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; tow sisters, Florence Blevins and Winnie Blevins; and three brothers, Virgil, Paul and David Highley.”
