His obituary in the Maysville Ledger-Independent reported:
“HILLSBORO - Stirl Cox, age 89, of Maxey Flat Road, Hillsboro, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. He was born June 27, 1916, in Elliott County and was the son of the late Walter Grider and Lou Ada Parish Cox. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Willard, Oral, and Blaine Cox, and one sister, Edith Reynolds.
His wife, Lovell Hurst Cox, preceded him in death on July 25, 2004. He is survived by three sons, William S. (Bill) Cox and his wife, Shirley of Dayton, Ohio, Willard R. (Bud) Cox and his wife, Shirley of Hillsboro and John W. (Dub) Cox and his wife, Shane of Flemingsburg, two daughters, Bonnie Curtis of Flemingsburg, and Sharon Black and her husband. Woody of Morehead. Also, George Roseberry, who was raised by Lovell and Stirl, and his wife, Bonnie of Wallingford, four brothers, Cledith Cox, Elbert Cox, Don Cox, and Walter Cox, all of Hillsboro, two sisters, Jewell Reeves of Middletown, Ohio, and Faye Gregory of Mansfield, Ohio; nine grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Stirl was a retired farmer and a member of Plummers Landing Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Andy Lands and the Rev. Ford Hinton officiating.
Burial will be in Newman Cemetery in Fleming County. Serving as pallbearers are J. W. Cox, Dewayne Curtis, Marlin Roseberry, Mike Cox, Ralph Cox, Anthony Vise and Floyd Lightcap.”
