1940 census of Letcher Co., Ky, Smoot Creek, ED 67-21, enumerated 20 April, lists on p. 18B as family #290:
Markwell, Gar, 59, logging woods; Joe, brother, 54, logging woods; Rex, brother, 61, sawyer at saw mill; Evert, son, 24, cutting timber. All married, all born in Kentucky, all residing in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky in 1935 except Rex, who was in Letcher Co., Ky.

Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 6, p. 343, records the marriage on 8 Feb 1908 of Garfield Markwell and Sudie Coldiron.

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 4 May, lists on p. 13A as family #225/227:
Markwell, Garfield, 29, laborer at lumber mill; Sudie, wife, 20, first marriage for both, married 2 years, 0 children.

I cannot find this family in the 1920 or 1930 censuses.

1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pine Grove precinct, enumerated 29 April, lists on p. 19A as family #286:
Markwell, Garfield, 59, labor at saw mill; Suda, wife, 50; Maudie, dau, 22, single. All born in Kentucky, living in Ermine, Letcher Co., Ky in 1935.

Garfield was also recorded on April 20 at a lumber camp in Letcher Co. with two of his brothers and his son Everett.
