His gravestone has his birthdate as Apr. 22, 1842, which is probably correct, since he was recorded as age 8 in the 1850 census.

Be careful not to confuse him with James William Perry (5 Sep 1844-12 June 1923), son of Thomas D. Perry and Martha Wells, who married Martha A. Day.
