His obituary reported:
“SPENCER -- Russell McKinney, 85, passed from this life into God's loving arms March 25, 2004, a resident of Owen Valley Health Care Campus, Spencer.
He was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Rowan County, Ky., spending his early years there, working with the Civilian Conservation Corps. Prior to military service as a World War II Army veteran, he moved to Anderson, working for Delco-Remy Division of General Motors retiring in 1964.
He was an active member of Ovid Community Church, member of Disabled American Veterans, National Rifle Association and UAW Local 662.
He spent 1971 to 1992 in Leesburg, Fla., where he attended Lady Lake Church of God. He returned to Anderson in 1992, residing in Redbud Estates.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Marcum) McKinney, whom he married June 27, 1944; two sons, Ronald Gary (wife, Cindy) McKinney of Spencer and Vaughn Anthony (wife, Connie) McKinney of New Caney, Texas; five grandchildren, Uriah, Nathan and Amber McKinney and Sadie and Nicole McKinney; four brothers, Ralph McKinney of Dunellen, Fla., Malcom Eugene McKinney of Indianapolis, Lester McKinney and Luster McKinney both of Morehead, Ky.; sister, Maxine Cousert of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray McKinney and Robert McKinney; parents, Cletis and Cannie (Jones) McKinney; and a son, Duane Maurice McKinney.
Russ enjoyed people, his family, feeding birds and squirrels. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed traveling and testifying about Jesus.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Bright Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, officiated by Russell's lifelong friend, the Rev. John K. Summers. Burial will take place at Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton.”
