Her obituary reported:

“Atlanta Pearl "Lana" Sergent, 84, of 8247 Ohio 61 died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at Med Central/Shelby Hospital.

She was born August 14, 1920, in Morehead, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Sarah Alice (McFarland) Brown. She attended Berean Bible College in Dallas, Texas, and was a homemaker.

She was a former employee of the Leland Hotel and Therm-O-Disc in Mansfield and Shelby Country Club. She also was a school bus driver for Plymouth-Shiloh Schools.

She attended the Shelby Church of God. Lana loved arts and crafts, gardening and bible studies. She was a nutritionist, always giving advice on healthy eating habits, and was known to harvest dandelions, woolly breeches, mouse's ear and plantain for a fantastic salad.

Lana is survived by three daughters, Luena and Granville Brown of Shelby, Alice and Theodore Sagle of Shelby and Sandra J. O'Connor of Mansfield; a son, Thomas Farmer and Cathy Sergent of Waco, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ina Bisel of Shelby and Gloria and Robert McFarland of Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Elenor Brown of Mansfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Farmer Sergent in 1994; a son, John David Hoff in 1977; a son-in-law, Rolland James O'Connor; a grandson, Sean Patrick O'Connor; two great-grandsons, Troy Allen Kershner and Michael Kershner; a sister, Norma Jean Ramey; and a brother, Miles Brown.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Main St., Shelby and from 10-11 a.m. Friday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., with Pastor Rick Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery.”
