The reported birthdate is not consistent with the 1900 census, which listed him as age 2 born Dec 1897. (His brothers James and Arthur also registered for the draft in Winchester, Indiana.)

His WW II draft registration card, filed 25 Apr 1942, records Roe Nesbith Nichols, age 45, residence 545 Lincoln Ave, Dunkirk, Jay Co., Indiana, born 22 Dec 1896 in Bath Co., Ky, nearest relative Mrs. Ida Nichols, same address, employer City of Dunkirk.

This is the same address where he was living with his brother James and his wife Ida in the 1940 census. The fact that he listed Ida rather than James as the contact may indicate that James died between April 1940 and April 1942.

The SSDI lists Roe Nichols, born 22 Dec 1896, died Mar 1964, last residence Indiana, SSN issued in Indiana before 1951.

In 1900 he was recorded with his father and stepmother (recently wed) as Roe age 2, born Dec 1897.
