His death certificate records Elijah Couch, age 75, born 22 Feb 1852 in Lee Co., Ky, died 17 Mar 1927 in Hayden Corner, Clark Co., Ky, widower, father Elijah Couch, mother’s maiden name Miss Pennington, both born in Va, cause of death senile decay, informant George Couch, Winchester, Ky, burial in Preston, Ky.

Carter Co., Ky birth records list Harry T. Williams, born 8 Aug 1856, father Thos Williams, mother’s maiden name Martha J. Ross.

I believe this is the child recorded in the 1860 census as Harriet E., with the “t” from the end of Harriet having been blurred together with the E to sound like Harry T. The gender column says “--”, instead of the male, female or ditto marks that are in every other line on the page, suggesting that the midwife or doctor did not record the sex.

(The other possibility would be that twins were both that day, and for some reason the birth of Harriet E was not recorded. But Martha reported herself in the 1900 census as the mother of 8 children, 4 living. If Harry and Harriet not the same child, that would make for 9 children.)

Williams, mother’s maiden name Patsy Williams, both born in Ky, cause of death tuberculosis, informant Geo Couch, Winchester, Ky, burial in Jackson graveyard, Preston, Ky.
