His gravestone at Hayes Crossing has the dates July 25, 1855 to Nov 15, 1939, but he was recorded as age 3 in 1860. I cannot find him in the Kentucky death records.

Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 4, p. 265, records the marriage on 2 June 1902 of John B. Hays, age 45, residence Soldier, born in Rowan Co., father born in Floyd Co., mother born in Letcher Co., his second marriage, to Eva Peck, age 18, residence Rodburn, born in and father born in Lawrence Co., mother born in Magoffin Co., her first marriage. The marriage was performed at Rodburn by E. H. Durham, witnesses Mullen Shults and Frank Harmon.

This marriage apparently was brief, because Eva remarried 18 months later to Milton Rose under her maiden name, and John did not die until 1939.
