The birthdate may be incorrect. It was listed as Aug 1882 in the 1900 census, and I cannot find him in 1880.

In 1900 he was listed as John W. Stedam, age 17, born Aug 1882, lodger, with the family of James Stedam age 33 and wife Mary E. age 34.

Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 4, p. 399, records the marriage on 19 Jan 1903 of John W. Stidham, age 21, farmer, residence Paragon, born in and mother born in Fleming Co., father born in South Carolina, to Mary A. Hicks, age 16, residence Paragon, born in and both parents born in Knott Co., to be at bride’s residence, at Logan Hicks by Roley Alfrey, witnesses Chas Stidom and Geo Hicks.
