1930 census of Fayette Co., Ky, Lexington ward 4, enumerated 5 April, lists on p. 7B as family #146/150, at 553 Pemberton Ave:
Flora, Russell, 31, age at first marriage 21, fence builder for hardware store; Arizona, wife, 26, age at first marriage 16; Ruth, dau, 9; Juanita, dau, 1 2/12. Buckner, Zelma, sister-in-law, 21, age at first marriage 17; James, brother-in-law, 22, age at first marriage 18, fence builder for hardware store; Katherine, step niece, 2 10/12; Raymond, step nephew, 5/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.
By “step” is apparently meant “in law”, that is, Katherine and Raymond are blood niece and nephew of Arizona, not of Russell. By the official census rules, this should have been recorded as two families sharing a dwelling, with James Buckner being a head-of-household, since he was married and not a dependent.
