Caroline is not Travis’s wife, but his daughter.

1880 census of Menifee Co., Ky, Ridge precinct, enumerated 12 June, lists on p. 33 as family #271/288:
Lawson, Travis, 60, farmer, b. Ky Va Va; Ibbey, 26, dau, single; Francis, 17, dau; Amos, 24, son, married; Marry, 20, dau-in-law, married; George V., 2, son-in-law. All children born Ky Ky Ky.

The identification of George as a son-in-law rather than grandson may mean that he is Mary’s son by a previous marriage, and thus a step grandson to Travis. Or it may just be a recording error.
