HIs WW I draft card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records Edward Smoot, age 34, residence R.F.D. #2, Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, born 5 May 1884, occupation farmer, nearest relative Mary Roberts, R.F.D. #2, Owingsville.
His death certificate records James Edward Smoot, age 65, born 5 May 1884 in Ky, died 28 Nov 1949 in Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, farmer, married, father Marion Smoot, mother’s maiden name Sallie Roberts, cause of death carcinoma of pancreas, informant James Smoot.
Since the above is the only record I’ve seen that shows his name as anything other than Edward or Ed, I’m entering him as Edward James rather than James Edward.
His mother Sallie Roberts, born 11 Oct 1859 in Bath Co., died 16 Mar 1921 in Bath Co., was the daughter of William Roberts and Jane Crockett.
