His death certificate records Oscar Pelfrey, age 64 years 5 months 19 days, born Aug 2 (year blank) in Johnson Co., Ky, died 21 Jan 1941 in Redwine, Elliott Co., Ky, occupation farming, married, husband of Sarah Ethel Pelfrey, father Jno Pelfrey, mother’s maiden name Margaret Day, both born in Ky, cause of death diabetes, contributory cause pneumonia, informant Eugene Pelfrey, Redwine, Ky, burial in home cemetery.
The reported age at death implies a birthdate of 2 Aug 1876.
Be careful not to confuse him with Oscar Leton Pelfrey, born 12 Aug 1879 in Johnson Co., Ky, son of Eliphus Pelfrey and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Middaugh, who moved to St. Louis, Missouri and married Julia M. Straub, or with James Oscar Pelfrey, born 2 Apr 1878 in Morgan Co. Ky, son of Amos Pelfrey and Elizabeth Lacy, who also went by the name Oscar.

1910 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Martinsburg precinct, enumerated 20 May, lists on p. 20A as family #336/341, on Wells Creek:
Pelfrey, Oscar, 33, farmer; Sarah E., 37, first marriage for both, married 9 years, mother of 4 children, 4 living; Johnie, son, 11; Ivy, dau, 7; Eugene, son, 5; Lester, son, 4/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.
There seems to be some conflict between the number of years married and the age of Johnie.
