HIs death certificate says Ben Smoot, married, died 16 Nov 1914 in Bath Co., Ky, cause of death pulmonary tuberculosis, burial in Sharpsburg.

All the age, birth date, birth place, occupation and parent fields are blank, as is the informant. There is a slanted annotation “Over” on the left area where the age and and occupation go, but the reverse side of the form was not filmed. There is a gravestone for Ben Franklin Smoot in Crown Hill Cemtery in Sharpsburg with the dates 1874-1914, though, so it must be for this Ben Smoot.

Since Maudie was born after 1880, and married before 1900, she will not appear in any census with her parents. Tracing of her parentage was done mostly by following the sister Lizzie who appears with Ben and Maude in the 1910 census.

1910 census of Bath Co., Ky, White Sulphur precinct, enumerated 25 April, lists on p. 11A as family #227/241:
Smoot, Ben F., 36, farm hand; Maudie M., wife, 27, married 11 years, mother of 5 children, 5 living; Stanley J., son, 9; Irvine, son, 7; Elbert L., son, 3; Edna, dau, 1. Bowling, Lizzie, sister-in-law, 17, single. All born Ky Ky Ky.
