His obituary in the IndyStar of 29 Oct 2008 reported:

“Jerry J. Quackenbush, 78, Southport, passed away October 26, 2008.

He was born September 6, 1930 in Indianapolis to the late James D. and Nellie L. Glidewell Quackenbush. Jerry married Phyllis L. Raney in November, 1950 and she preceded him in death on September 13, 1987. He then married Beverly Baker on October 3, 1992 and she survives.

He was a Navy Korean War veteran. He was employed twenty eight years at the Indianapolis Police Department retiring in 1990 as a lieutenant. His memberships include Madison Avenue Baptist Church, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 86, American Legion Post 777 and National Rifle Association.

Other survivors include daughter, Wanda J. (James) May, Gravel Switch, KY; sons, William C. (Susan) Quackenbush, Kizer, OR, Larry M. (Kitty) Quackenbush, Waverly, David W. (Debra) Quackenbush, Indianapolis and Gene A. (Teena) Quackenbush, Indianapolis; step-son, Dan (Leslie) Ferguson, Indianapolis; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, November 2 at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 7816 Madison Avenue. There will be a gathering for family and friends following the service at the church. Memorial gifts have been suggested to the Salvation Army Memorial Program, 3100 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46208-4718.”
