Notes for Emmazar F. Prince
His year of birth is ambiguous. The 1940 census implies 1894, the SSDI says 1893, and the California death index and his gravestone both say 1889. I cannot find an earlier census record or a WW I draft registration card to supply another data point. Perhaps he went by another name in early records.
The SSDI lists Emmazar Prince, born 15 Feb 1893, died Feb 1976, last residence Bonita, San Diego Co., California, SSN issued in Texas before 1951.
The California death index lists Emmazar E. Prince, born 15 Feb 1889 in Georgia, died 3 Feb 1976 in San Diego Co.
His gravestone says “Emmazar F. Prince, Dearest Husband and Father, Feb 15, 1889 - Feb 3, 1976, A Friend to Everyone”
Census
I have not been able to find Emmazar in any census prior to 1940.
The 1917 city directory for Wichita Falls, Texas, lists Maude Prince, widow of E. F. Prince, living at 704 Austin St.
Many family trees on Ancestry.com link that record to Emmazar (quite understandable given the many similarities), but it almost certainly represents a different Maude Prince. Emmazar was still living in 1917, and he and Maude were together in Wichita Falls in the 1940 census. However, there was a Maude B. Flewellen who married an Earnest Prince on 11 May 1902 in Hunt Co., Texas, who was recorded as Earnest T. Prince age 28 with wife Maude age 29, married 7 years, in the 1910 census of Wichita Falls. In the 1920 and 1930 censuses that widow Maude Prince was still living in Wichita Falls, at 904 Austin St. (Note the similarity of that street address to the one in the city directory.) It is far more likely that the 1917 city directory entry is for that Maude Prince, with a failure to cross the F in the 1910 census, than it is that Emmazar’s wife was incorrectly reported as a widow, with no listing for him, coincidentally living on the same street as the other Maude Prince. More likely the Emmazar Prince family did not move to Wichita Falls until some time between 1930 and 1935.
Notes for Maude Della Culver
The SSDI lists Maude Prince, born 5 Feb 1897, died Sep 1970, last residence Bonita, San Diego Co., California, SSN issued in Texas before 1951.
The California death index lists Maude D. Prince, born 5 Feb 1897 in Texas, died 3 Sep 1970 in San Diego Co.
