His obituary in the Farmington Daily Times reported:
“Dewey Kay Foutz, 73, of Farmington, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, in Farmington. Dewey was born Jan. 25, 1934, to Jesse Jerome Foutz and Clara Ashcroft, in Farmington. He was the youngest of 13 children, often referred to as "Baby Brother" by his sister Lavina.
Dewey graduated from Kirtland High School in 1952. Like his father, Dewey was fluent in Navajo and loved the Navajo people. He spent many years working at various trading posts. In the early sixties, Dewey went to work for his brother, JL (Mutt) Foutz, at Foutz and Bursum Construction Co. He became a partner in 1982, and semi-retired in the late nineties, continuing to work for the company in a consulting capacity until his death.
Dewey and Laurie Jean Michael were married July 1, 1988, in Tucson, AZ. After retirement Dewey and his wife Laurie maintained homes in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico.
Dewey was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He never met a stranger, and was a loyal and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings during his lifetime. Dewey was a man of great honor, compassion and service. He was a giant both in stature and in heart. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, ten siblings, and one grandson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laurie; his children, Sheri and Bert Sexton of Bloomfield, Dewey and Cindy Foutz of Farmington, Steve and Debbie Foutz of Bloomfield, Brad Foutz of Aztec, Brenda and Jose Quezada of Mesa, Ariz., Brett and Barbara Foutz of Gilbert, Ariz., Lynnae and John Merrell of Gilbert, Carl Sexton and wife, Rebecca, of Farmington, and his youngest son, Jesse Jerome Foutz of the family home; his brother, Kneale Foutz and wife, Irene, of Kirtland; sister, Lavina Crockett and husband, George, of Idaho; 31 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; niece, Valerie Hatch of Fruitland; and many, many more nieces and nephews, too many to mention.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Bishops Storehouse, 925-B Cannery Court in Farmington.
An open viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 4400 College Blvd. in Farmington, with Bishop Kent Applegate conducting.”
