Her obituary in the Rowan County News of Thursday, Dec. 11, 1947 reported:
“Thanksgiving Day Accident Claims Victim
Mrs. Nola Conley Cox, 41, Succumbs Sunday in Hayswood Hospital
Nola Conley Cox, 41, wife of Rev. Henry R. Cox, died Sunday in Hayswood Hospital, Maysville, as the result of injuries received in the Thanksgiving Day automobile collision in which five other persons were seriously injured. Funeral services were held Thursday at the East Main Street Church of God by Rev. Arnold Ison, Rev. Herman Ross and Rev. A. C. Bradley.
Mrs. Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Conley, ws born December 29, 1905. On April 27, 1921 she was united in marriage to Henry Roscoe Cox, who survives. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Johnny W. Ferguson of St. Mary’s, W. Va., and Arlie Cox, who is a student at Morehead State College. She had been an active member of the Enterprise Baptist Church at Crockett, Ky., for the past twenty years.
Interment was in the Brown Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Ferguson Funeral Home.
Rev. Henry R. Cox, husband of the deceased, who suffered a compound jar fracture, a broken right arm, chin lacerations and a badly lacerated left leg is still in the Hayswood Hospital, Maysville.
Other occupants of the Cox car, a 1941 Pontiac sedan, were Earl Caskey and Douglas Johnson, who are both in a Dayton, Ohio, hospital. Johnson who was at first believed to be less seriously hurt, was taken to the hospital with a broken leg. Caskey suffered lacerations about the forehead. Their condition has been reported as fair.
William E. Crutcher, editor of the Rowan County News, who suffered chin fractures, a right hand fracture and an injured left eye, is in a Lexington hospital and his condition is deemed satisfactory. Also in a Lexington hospital is Kenneth Bays, Morehead jeweler and owner-driver of the 1947 Packard in which Crutcher was a passenger, whose condition is reported improved. Bays sustained left leg fractures, chin lacerations and internal injuries.”
