The reported birth places of Virginia for Martha and her parents are inconsistent with census records.

1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky, enumerated 31 Aug, lists on p. 82 as family #530:
Elizabeth Ferguson, 32; Henry, 12; William, 6; Miles, 2; Martha J. Ferguson, 15; Henry, 12. All born in Kentucky.

The first three children are Elizabeth’s. The last two are children of Ambrose Ferguson and Mary “Polly” Williams. (Both Ambrose and Polly were first cousins of Elizabeth’s husband Daniel W. Ferguson.)

Morgan Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage on 19 July 1855 of Daniel Williams, age 22, and Martha Jane Ferguson, age 21, both born in and residents of Morgan Co., at Elizabeth Ferguson’s by John Williams, witnesses Ambrose McGuire, William Williams and Tobias Cock.

Daniel and Martha were first cousins once removed on both the Jones and Williams side, that is, Daniel was a first cousin of Martha’s father through Jones, and a first cousin of Martha’s mother through Williams.
