A death notice in the newspaper reported:
“KILLED IN KOREA - Sgt. James M. (Pete) Clevenger, son of Rev. and Mrs. Henry Clevenger of Wrigley, was killed in action November 4, 1950, in Korea. He had previously been decorated for heroism in action in September in an encounter than won for him the purple hear, silver star and bronze star in which battle he was wounded. After recovering from the wound he rejoined his company and about a month later was killed in action.
He had been in the armed forces for seven years. He was a member of Co. C, 43rd Armed Infantry Batallion, Fort Sill, Okahoma. Sailing for Korea in June, he was assigned to Company A, 19th Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He had spent three years in Germany.
