1850 census of Carter Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 8 Aug, lists on p. 17 as family #99:
Richard Whitt, 54, blacksmith; Rebecca, 44; Hannah, 38; James B., 22; Lavisa, 15; James G., 13. All born in Virginia. Virginia L. McFarland, 7, b. Kentucky.
Virginia McFarland is the daughter of Miles McFarland and Hannah Whitt, who were married in Dec 1841, and presumably divorced before 1850, since Miles is living with his parents in this census year, and Hannah has returned to her maiden name. Judging by the 1860 census (see below), Hannah should be listed as age 28, and James B. should be John B.
