1850 census of Carter Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 26 Aug, lists on p. 40 as family #256:
Abijah Whitt, 37, farmer, b. Va; Nancy, 37, b. Va; Rebecca A., 13, b. Va; Louisa, 12, b. Va; John, 9, b. Ky; Elizabeth, 7, b. Ky; Emely, 5, b. Ky; Richard P., 3, b. Ky; Linny, 3/12, b. Ky.
The preceding household is headed by his brother Richard P. Whitt, age 43, with wife Sally. The next household is their widowed mother, Hannah Whitt age 77. (Ancestry.com has transcribed the middle initial of both Richard Whitts as D, and it looks like one taken in isolation, but examining other names such as David, District, Peter and Penn on this and adjacent pages shows that the enumerator made simple P’s that often had fat top loops nearly touching the baseline, while his D’s were more elaborate and distinctive.)
