Her obituary in the Harrisburg Patriot-News of March 12, 2013 reported:
“Joyce Ann Bax, 53 was carried away in the arms of Jesus while hearing the choir of angels in the beauty of sunshine during palliative care at Harrisburg Community Osteopathic Hospital by a caring and compassionate staff while surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born January 15, 1960 in Akron, OH, a loving daughter to surviving parents Helen M. (Meeks) and Erwin L. Whetsel, Sr. of Pace, FL. She was a 1977 graduate of Hahnville High School, Boutte, LA, living in numerous cities before settling in Harrisburg, PA, where for the past six years she was store manager of Tractor Supply Co., Harrisburg, PA.
Surviving in addition to her parents, are her husband of 35 years Philip D. Bax, her son, Philip D. Bax, her daughter, Ashley Faye Bax along with the joy of her life, granddaughter Hellena Ember Mardoux Bax, all of Harrisburg, PA; her brother, Erwin L. Whetsel, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Ashland, KY; sister, Cheryl M., wife of James A. Boyce, III of Birdsboro, PA; sister, The Rev. Vicki D., wife of Matthew D. Smith of Harrisburg, PA; sister, Stephanie D., wife of Raymond Arnold of Pensacola, FL; brother, Christopher E. Whetsel and wife Jackie of Pensacola, FL; and brother, Matthew C. Whetsel and wife Carla of Montgomery, AL. She also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews , great nieces and great nephews.
Joyce was a member of His Heart Tabernacle, Mechanicsburg, PA. She waged a courageous battle with cancer, staying positive and embracing life. A devoted, loving and beloved wife, grandmother, mother, sister, daughter and friend, Joyce Ann continually gave of herself, sacrificed and offered strength to her family and to all of those around her even though her own strength was fading. A Christian Memorial Service will be held at His Heart Tabernacle, 4721 Delbrook Road, Mechanicsburg, PA on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. officiated by The Reverend Vicki D. Smith. Anyone attending can feel free to wear a splash of her favorite color purple. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Thursday in the church. Interment will follow in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill.”
