Her death certificate records Martha Caudill, age 91 years 2 months 1 day, born 26 Feb 1825 in Kentucky, died 27 Apr 1916 in Barnetts Creek, Johnson Co., Ky, widowed, father John Hitchcock, mother’s maiden name Temperance Conley, both born in Ky, cause of death softening of brain, informant R. D. Caudill, Barnetts Creek, Ky, burial in Barnett’s Creek.
Temperance Conley’s maiden name was Blair; Conley is her second married name. It is more likely that Martha is a daughter of John Hitchcock (b. ca 1804) and Mahala Fitzpatrick, making Temperance her grandmother, than her being a daugher of Temperance Blair and John Hitchcock (b. 1772). Besides the ages fitting better (Temperance would have been 44 in 1825), all of the census records for Martha say that both her parents were born in Kentucky.
