Her obituary in the Morehead News of 4 Jan 2013 reported:
“Virginia M. Thompson Bowling, 83, of Knightstown, Ind., passed away Friday, December 28, 2012, at Reid Hospital in Richmond. She was born September 7, 1929, in Grayson to the late Perry and Ellen Hankins Thompson.
Virginia had been employed as a cook at Chrysler Corp. and Bud Alexander’s Cafeteria in New Castle. She was a member of the Kennedy-Roosevelt Democratic Party. Virginia had attended Lewisville Church of God. She enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, quilting and game shows.
Survivors include five children, Bill Bowling of Muncie, Ind., Carolyn Bowling of Knightstown, Frank (wife Gloria) Bowling of New Castle, Ind., Judy Bowling of Knightstown (special friend Mike Roysden of Portland), and Jiggs Johnson of Spiceland; grandchildren, Shawn (husband Steve) Bowling Thurston of New Castle, Scott (wife Kari) Bowling of Anderson, Chas Bowling (special friend Holly Cline) of Florida, Tiffany York Johnson of Sulphur Springs, Aaron York of New Castle, Thomas York of Indianapolis, Michael Johnson of New Castle, Susan (husband Mike) Boggs of Spiceland, Bridget Johnson of New Castle, Andy (wife Teresa) Chew of New Castle, and Kris (husband Mike) Clarkson of Connersville; several great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sister-in-law, Ina Louise Bowling of Anderson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Cecil Bowling; granddaughter, Tabitha York; great grandson, Nicholas Thurston; five brothers, Albert Salyers, Max, Bobby, Granville and Wilfred Thompson; and two sisters, Liz Conley and Ithel Watkins.
Services will be at 12 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Rev. Dillard Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
