Some online family trees link David as a son of Henry M. Duncan and Elizabeth “Betsy” Weddle, but that would not explain why his son Crockett was living with John Strode Duncan and Rhoda Lawhorn and their son Benjamin in the 1870 census. (Henry M. Duncan was a son of John Strode Duncan’s brother Blanch, and thus a first cousin of Benjamin Duncan.)
