Notes for Martin “Mart” Ison
He appears in many records as Mart Ison Jr., but the suffix was to distinguish him from older Mart Ison’s in the area, especially Martin Ison b. 1855, the son of Charles Ison and Sarah Ann Hamilton.
He was recorded in the 1880 census as age 4, and in the 1900 census as age 23, born Feb 1877.
His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records Mart Ison, age 41, residence Moon, Morgan Co., Ky, born 14 Feb 1877, occupation farming, nearest relative wife and child, Moon, Ky.
His death certificate records Mart Ison, age 78, born 14 Feb 1875 in Johnson Co., Ky, died 4 May 1953 in Lloyd, Greenup Co., Kentucky, widowed, farmer, father Ruben Ison, mother’s maiden name Lessie Peters, cause of death cerebral hemorrhage, informant U. H. G. Self, burial in Kelly Cemetery, Moon, Morgan Co., Ky.
The age and year of birth are off by at least one year, possibly two, and the informant (his son-in-law, husband of Cloma) has confused the maiden name of his stepmother Rosanna Peters with that of his mother, Malissa Moore.
