Notes for Barbara Peyton
Although the 1850 through 1880 censuses suggest a birth date around 1829 or late 1828, she may have really been born either in the second half of 1830, or else around 1825. The 1830 census for the Phillip Peyton family recorded no daughters under 5, but three of them age 5 to 9.
According to FindaGrave.com, her gravestone has the dates 1820-1888, but there is no photograph. The stone was likely worn, so the birth date may have been misread.
Census Notes for Western & Barbara (Family)
1870 census of Montgomery Co., Ky, Jeffersonville precinct, enumerated 23 Aug, lists on p. 21 as family #138:
Philip Payton, 84, farmer; Elizabeth, 77, keeping house; Western, 55, farmer; Barbra, 41, wife; Horn, Philip, 13. All born in Kentucky.
Barbra is Philip and Elizabeth’s daughter; she was recorded with them in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. So Western is their son-in-law.
1880 census of Montgomery Co., Ky, Jeffersonville precinct, enumerated 3 June, lists on p. 8 as family #53/54:
Payton, Wesstern, 67, farmer; Barbara, 52, wife; Hon, Phillip, 22, farmer; Mary, 19, wife. All born Ky Ky Ky. (Properly speaking, either Western and Phillip should have been given separate family numbers, or else Phillip should have been recorded as stepson and Mary as stepdaughter-in-law.)
