Notes for Susan Kegley
Her age is only approximate within about 3 years. She was recorded as age 14 in the 1850 census, age 21 in the 1860 census, and age 40 in both the 1870 and 1880 censuses! (The former was probably a misheard “thirty”, since they sound similar.)

1870 census of Elliott Co., Kentucky, precinct 5, Newfoundland P.O., enumerated 10 Aug, lists on p. 12 as family #88:
Porter, James, 36; Susan, 40; Samuel, 9; William, 7; Rebecca, 6; Jane, 4; Martin, 3. All listed as born in Kentucky, although it should be Virginia for Susan.
1880 census of Elliott Co., Kentucky, Moccasin precinct, enumerated 21 June, lists on p. 34 as family #227:
Porter, James, 39, farmer, b. Ky Va Va; Sousan, 40, wife, b. Ky Va Va; Samuel, 19, son; William, 17, son; Rebecca A., 13, dau; Jane, 11, dau; John M., 9, son.
It appears that James has aged only three years since the previous census, and Susan not at all. Quite a feat! The three younger children also appear to have aged only 6 or 7 years each.
