Short, Wright, 42, b. Sep 1857, farmer; Polly A., 37, b. May 1863, married 18 years, mother of 5 children, 4 living; Lucy Ann, dau, 13, b. Sep 1886; Susan, dau, 10, b. July 1889; Nannie, dau, 7, b. May 1893; Charley, son, 5, b. July 1894. All listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although Polly and her parents were really born in Virginia, as were Wright’s parents. (The whole page is all dittos in the birthplace column, although there are other people on it known to be born in Virginia or North Carolina. So I suspect this census taker just didn’t ask.)
Polly was recorded with her parents in the 1860 census of Lee Co., Virginia as age 1, so the birth date for her is off by at least four years. Wright was recorded in the 1860 census as age 4 and in the 1870 census as age 14.
