In 1930 and 1940 Milton is recorded with his parents, in 1930 as widowed, and in 1940 as divorced:

(The grandson Russell is not the son of Milton; he is really a Prather, the son of Wesley Prather and Bessie Hardin, who died in 1913.)

Hardin, Milton, 28, laborer at saw mill; Elva, wife, 24, first marriage for both, married 4 years, mother of 2 children, 2 living; Vergal, son, 3; Earl, son, 4/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Elva’s parents and sister are in the next household.

1920 census of Morgan Co., Ky, Elk Fork precinct, enumerated 10 Feb, lists on p. 11B as family #236/248:
Hardin, Malton, 37, laborer at lumber mill; Elvinia, wife, 36; Pearl, dau, 13; Earl, son, 12; Gertrude, dau, 8; Mary J., dau, 3. All born Ky Ky Ky.

The daughter Pearl should be a son Burl. (He is also recorded with Elva’s parents as grandson, so perhaps he was not at home when the census taker came by, and the name was misheard.)
