Notes for Mary M. Goldy
The Ohio death index lists Mary M. McCarty, age 87, died 21 Oct 1959 at Mercy Hospital North, Hamilton, Butler Co., Ohio, widowed.
Some online family trees identify her with the Matilda Goldy age 2 in the 1870 census with the Henry Goldy family, and list her parents as Charles Jefferson Goldy and Barbara Kinder. I think she is more likely to be the Mary Goldy age 11 in 1880 with the family of William Henry Goldy and Malinda McCarty, but I have no definitive proof of either. (I cannot find either family in the 1870 census, nor can I find the Jeff Goldy family in the 1880 census.) One argument for Jeff Goldy and Barbara Kinder as her parents is that in the 1900 through 1920 censuses she reported both parents as born in Virginia. One argument against it (besides the given name mismatch) is that Jeff and Barbara had several children born in the 1870’s, so it is unclear why a very young daughter of theirs would be living with her grandparents in 1870.
