Notes for Roy Hopkins Quesenberry
Be careful not to confuse him with Roy Herman Quesenberry, son of Sylvester Quesenberry, who was also born in Floyd Co., Virginia, and was only 3 months younger.
Census Notes for Roy Hopkins & Lavinia “Vena” M. (Family)
1930 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Pine Creek district, enumerated 7 April, lists on p. 3A as family #54, on Green Briar Road:
Quesenberry, Roy, 27, age at first marriage 23, laborer at odd jobs; Venia, wife, 27, age at first marriage 23; Kelog (?), son, 3 7/12; Angella, dau, 6. All listed as born Va Va Va.
The name of their son has been indexed by Ancestry as Kelog, but it looks to me like Kelon with a y superimposed on the n. The reported age for Angela is odd, since she was really only 2 1/2. Perhaps 2 years 6 months was misunderstood as 6 years? Both she and Kleyon were really born in Kentucky.
The preceding household is headed by Roy’s parents.
1940 census of Wythe Co., Virginia, Lead Mines district, enumerated 8 May, lists on p. 14B as family #211, on Low Gap Road:

The word “Head” is in the relationship column for both Roy and Vena, causing Ancestry.com to index this family as if Roy were in a separate household, but they have the same household number, and the “Head” tag is crossed out for Vena.
