This family is in my database only because Eugene was the stepfather of my 4th cousins twice removed, Robert and Richard Ammend (formerly Ramey), sons of Ray Ramey and Barbara Mollie Schween, who took their stepfather’s surname after their mother remarried. I prefer to record all of someone’s marriages whenever I record any of them, so as to avoid leaving the impression with visitors to my web site that the person was only married once.
Eugene and Colleen probably divorced, with Colleen taking custody of their children and returning to her maiden name, because the obituary of their son Mike says that he was preceded in death by his mother Colleen Hicks, and makes no mention of whether his father preceded him in death (as he did) or survived him.
The 1944 Minneapolis city directory lists Eug Ammend, USN, with wife Colleen living at 1911 Univ av NE. Living at 2819 Polk are his parents, Wallace C. Ammend, city fireman, with wife Agnes.
The 1948 Minneapolis city directory lists Eugene W. Ammend, clerk PO, with wife Colleen J, living at 1923 Univ av NE. His parents are still living at 2819 Polk.
In the 1953 city directory, Eugene, still a post office clerk, is living with his parents at 2819 Polk, and Colleen Ammend, recorded as the widow of Gene, office clerk for Overload Serv, is living at 2447 Taylor.
