Notes for Henderson Goad
His gravestone gives his date of birth as Sep. 10, 1825, but it was probably really later. He was recorded in the 1860 census as age 30, in the 1870 census as age 40, in the 1880 census as age 52, and in the 1900 census as age 73 born Sep 1826.
From his Civil War service records:
Enlisted as a Private on 24 May 1861 at Lynchburg, Virginia; mustered into "C" Co. VA 24th Infantry.
Arrested for being AWOL 4 Sept 1862 (place not stated)
Taken as prisoner of war on 3 July 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Took Oath of Allegiance 25 Jan 1864 at Point Lookout, Maryland
As a member of Kemper's Brigade, Pickett's Division, participated on July 3, 1863 in the famous "Pickett's Charge" at Gettysburg and was captured by the Union forces.
As a prisoner-of-war, he took the oath of allegiance to the United States and became a "galvanized rebel", these being ex-Confederates who joined the Union Army with the proviso that they would not be compelled to face their former comrades in battle.
These men were used against the Indians in the West, releasing other Union soldiers for battlefield duty in the South.
His widow Julia Ann Goad applied for a pension on Nov 14, 1919.
Census
I cannot find Henderson in the 1850 census.
Notes for Rebecca Largen
I cannot find Rebecca in the 1850 census. Largen may be the name of a previous husband rather than her maiden name.
Census Notes for Henderson & Rebecca (Family)

Henderson Goad, 30, farm laborer; Rebecca, 30; Vincent, 9; Milly Ann 7; Sarah, 2. Legrand Collier, 35, clock repairer. All born in Virginia.
The ages of Vincent and Milly suggest that they may be the children of a previous wife.
